Aviva tasks marketer Jan Gooding with creating ‘inclusive’ culture02.12.2016
Aviva says it plans to create a “legacy of inclusive culture” following the appointment of Jan Gooding to the newly-created position of global inclusion director.
Former BT and British Gas marketer Gooding first joined insurer Aviva in 2008, most recently becoming group brand director. However, she has long been passionate about diversity and LGBT issues – something she addressed at this year’s Festival of Media Global in Rome (see below).
Gooding will take on the new role in January.
“Building a strong culture of inclusive diversity is central to Aviva’s future success. Every one of our customers is different, just as every one of our people brings something different to work,” said Sarah Morris, chief people officer at Aviva.
“Inclusion isn’t just about gender or ethnicity, or sexual orientation or age. It’s about ‘people’ and making sure we recognise the diverse talents, experiences and perspectives of everyone at Aviva. It makes good business sense.”
Gooding added: “I am thrilled to have been appointed into this role with all the challenges and opportunities that go with it. The business case has been evidenced again and again across the world: people perform better at work when they can be themselves.
“Simply put, this is another example of [Aviva’s Good Thinking campaign], focusing attention on an area which will ensure we attract and keep the best talent and are better able to serve our customers. Varied and balanced voices leads to improvements in creativity, productivity and profitability in every sector.”
