WPP invests in new Amsterdam hub13.10.2016
WPP agencies in Amsterdam will now share a home, as the group invests in a new base for its operating companies in the city.
The Rivierstaete building is located near the centre of the city on the banks of the Amstel River. WPP has a targeted occupation date of mid-2018 to bring together around 30 companies comprising 1,500 people under one 19,00 square metre roof.
Currently the companies operate from 10 different locations around Amsterdam.
The building will be stripped back to its shell and fully refurbished to include new facades and cores, with a transparent deign by MVSA Architects featuring outdoor terraces and glass facades.
This co-location follows similar WPP moves in Madrid and Shanghai.
“Our strategic priority is ‘horizontality’ – encouraging the seamless collaboration between our agencies and disciplines that our clients increasingly demand and value,” said WPP chief executive officer Sir Martin Sorrell.
“The new building in Amsterdam will allow our companies to work more closely and more effectively together, and our people will have the benefit of an outstanding working environment tailored to the needs of modern advertising and marketing services businesses.
“This is a clear statement to the market of our commitment to the Netherlands and the strength of our businesses there.”
WPP companies and associates currently generate revenues of around $300m in the Netherlands with over 1,500 employees.
In other WPP news, the group has announced that its programmatic media and tech platform Xaxis is muscling in on the growing e-commerce space with the acquisition of Triad Retail Media, as part of its strategy to differentiate its offering by focusing on technology, data and content.
